Strength Through Music is a song by Amanda Palmer.
History[]
Meaning[]
Strength Through Music is primarily about school shootings and the psyche of the shooters. The music video for the song reinforces this as Amanda is seen walking through a high school corridor full of dead bodies and running, scared students. During live performances, instead of the opening monologue, somebody (usuall either Steven or Lyndon of The Danger Ensemble) will read out the names, ages and injuries sustained by many of the victims of the Columbine High School massacre.
Other Notes[]
- The monologue at the beginning of the song is taken from 'Strindberg + Helium: With Iron and Sulphur', an episode of a flash video series abou the Swedish playwright, August Strindberg. The voice of Strindberg is that of James Bewley.
- There is no F in the Greek alphabet.
- The chemical symbol for iron is not 'F', it's actually 'Fe'. 'F' is the symbol for fluorine
- The alternate version of the song does not include the opening monologue. Other differences include:
- a web of action
- why are you blaming
- and boys they want to have fun, boys just want to have fun
Lyrics[]
- A peculiar thing happened to me this morning
- Just as I reached into my pocket to find it empty of any sou,
- I saw two broken twigs on the ground,
- Shaped like the Greek letters “F” and “S”.
- “F” and “S” Helium, “F” and “S”.
- These are the chemical symbols for Iron and Sulfur.
- It was a sign, I’m sure, for me to make gold from these two elements.
- I have been working all day,
- Over these hellish flames.
- locked in his bedroom
- he saw the world
- a web of answers
- and cumshot girls
- tick tick tick tick tick
- tick tick tick tick tick
- don't bother blaming
- his games and guns
- he's only playing
- and boys just want to have fun
- he picked a soundtrack
- and packed his bag
- he hung his walkman
- around his neck
- tick tick tick tick tick
- tick tick tick tick tick
- it is so simple,
- the way they fall
- no cry, no whimper
- no sound at all
- tick tick tick tick tick
- tick tick tick tick tick
- tick tick tick tick tick
- tick tick tick tick tick
- tick tick tick tick
- boom
